Developer Wiis over competition with five of top ten most sold games this year coming from its camp
Video game sales figures for the first half of 2009 have been released, and Nintendo exclusives have locked out the first four positions in the individual format chart.
Wii appeal
Whether it's the family-friendly nature, arm-swing interaction, or chuckle-making name, the little white console can lay claim to having the most sold titles in the UK this year, according to the Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association (ELSPA).
No surprise that Wii Fit – the game which enjoyed a run of 16 weeks atop the UK games chart – tops the list. Following behind in second and third is Wii Play and Mario Kart Wii, with all three contributing to a sales volume of 1.65 million units.
UK goes mental for Brain Training
The same period saw Dr Kawashima's Brain Training (at number seven) on the Nintendo DS reach the milestone of an incredible three million units sold in its lifetime – making it the UK's most popular game ever.
In the combined chart, meanwhile, Wii Fit still holds onto top spot, but all-format giants FIFA 09 and Call of Duty: World at War rise to second and third, with Wii-only titles Wii Play and Mario Kart Wii falling to fifth and sixth.
Michael Rawlinson, Director General of ELSPA, explains the appeal of family-orientated games: "the demographic has changed [with gaming] now enjoyed by players of both sexes and of all ages." He also mentions that "these figures are clear evidence that gaming is now mainstream in the UK".
His claims are backed up by the fact that there are 24 million home and portable gaming consoles in the UK, about the same as the number of UK households in total.
Overall game sales are down 5.7% from 2008, but the industry is still in rude health compared to many others at the moment.

Killzone 2 (SCEE) is one of my favorite game of my Wii collection. It shows you have done really a hard-work to make this list. I also love to play tower defense games but didn`t get any relevant game like this in list.
