Sam Raimi to direct World of Warcraft

Movie of the game to get the Spider-Man treatment

Spider-Man director Sam Raimi is to direct a movie based on the multiplayer online game World of Warcraft.

The film was announced in 2007 by Legendary Entertainment CEO Thomas Tull, who said the film would have a budget of $100 million and a release date in 2009.

"We know that [Raimi] will create an incredible film," says Tull.

"This is an incredible opportunity for us to work with Sam on a project that is so eagerly anticipated by so many," says Warner Brothers president Jeff Robinov in a statement.

Raimo wrote and directed Spider-Man 3 and Drag Me to Hell, and his upcoming releases include Spider-Man 4 and The Evil Dead. "Warcraft is a fantastic, action-packed story," says Raimi in a statement, describing himself as "thrilled" to be asked to work on the project.

There's no sign of a release date or cast yet.

Great

This could be very good (Drag Me to Hell, Spiderman 2), very very bad (Spiderman 3, Hercules: The Legend Continues), or very very campy (Cleopatra 2525).
I'm kinda holding my breath! :D
