Asus P565 800MHz phone – fastest handset yet

Perfect for the fast talker in your life

If you remember the time when PC speeds were measured in MHz, rather than GHz (which was only eight years ago, fact fans) then you probably won't be best pleased to know that you'll soon have to get ready to start using decimals points when it comes to talking about how fast your phone is.

The Asus' P565 hasn't quite jumped the 1GHz barrier just yet – but at 800MHz it's awfully close. According to its doting parents, it has the world's fastest processor (for a phone, we're presuming).

Specs is on fire

In addition to its super-fast 800MHz CPU the rest of the specification ain't too bad either. It features a 2.8in touchscreen display that stretches to a VGA 480x640 pixel resolution. It runs Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, but it's also helped out by Asus' own Glide interface to make the most of its touchy-feely capabilities.

There's HSDPA for speedy data downloads, plus the usual Wi-Fi and Bluetooth backup for wireless comms. Memory is a little tight, running to just 256MB of storage, but there is a microSD card slot so you can easily bump it up at a later date.

The camera stretches to a reasonable – if not earth-shattering – 3-megapixels and rounding it off is GPS so you know where you are.

Availability

There's no official word on pricing and availability just yet, but we reckon – and this is just a hunch – once it comes to these shores you'll be able to pick one up for free on a contract.
