What's hot and been keeping us entertained in the iGIZMO office this week
With the run-up to Christmas, it's been a busy old week. We've been snowed under a mountain of gadgets and gizmos, but we still had time to enjoy the simple pleasures of life.
This is what has been rocking the iGIZMO office and team this week:
Internet cricket – Our Deputy Editor Martin has fallen victim to the compelling and extremely addictive world of Little Master's internet cricket game. Control a surprisingly well-articulated batsman with your mouse and hit balls at designated zones around the screen to score runs. Martin has been so distracted by this in the office, he stayed till 10pm this week to catch up with work. He played internet cricket till 9.30pm.
Ocarina iPhone App – Of the hundreds of weird and wonderful apps downloaded and created by our Flash Designer Caleb, he gave us all a tune on his iPhone with the Smule Ocarina app. A nostalgic toot from the past and 59p well spent, we think.
Lychee Martinis – Hooked on these after an Xbox event last month, and have been craving them since. We've been having to run down to a local bar just to get our fix. They won't win any man points, but taste too good to care. Disclaimer: drinking is neither big, nor clever. Just satisfying.
Sonos playlists – The most cherished possession in the office, Sonos with Napster. Search for practically any song on the planet, line it up on a playlist and watch everyone either groan, grimace, or (almost) gyrate as it blasts from our Hi-Fi system. In celebration to Barack Obama winning the US election we had an American-themed playlist. Plenty of Creedence Clearwater Revival, as well as finding a gem in the dreadlocked form of Cocoa Tea. A reggae tribute to the President-to-be from a man who was, interestingly, once a jockey.
Cheese on Bread – Not the food, but a slightly geeky pop outfit found on our Napster playlist who sound like They Might Be Giants, but with probably the best name in the business. Terribly good.
Hanging out with the Sugababes – Yet another Xbox event leading us astray with the launch of the new Xbox experience. No Lychee martinis this time, but plenty of champagne and games on offer as we got to rub shoulders with Britain's most successful girl band.
Winning things –iGIZMO is proud to be named winner of "Electronic subscription product of the year" at the PPA Consumer Direct Awards. As you can see from the picture at the top, our digital marketing exec Richard Ayerst accepted the award with upmost modesty. Well done, sir.
