The first games chart of 2009 sports a new number one
Christmas saw consoles and games being snapped up left, right, and at every shopping centre. That much was expected. But what wasn't expected was Call of Duty: World at War being toppled from the position of best-selling game by game chart loiterer FIFA '09.
Back in the game
FIFA '09 has been in the top five longer than John Motson has been making bad jokes and it moves to the top spot once again.
COD: WaW comes in second, and with the strong and steady sales that kept it atop of the charts for so long, we're sure it won't disappear like a sniper in the bush.
Surprise package
Need for Speed: Undercover begins the year as the UK's third most purchased game. Out-selling party games during the festive period is some feat.
Getting the party started
Guitar Hero: World Tour was the game that everyone wanted to play this year taking it into the top five; but not everyone wanted to pay £180, which is why it only made it to number four.
Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games had a second wind and saw armchair athletes facing off against each other in the game we recommended as one of the essential games to play on Christmas day.
1. FIFA 09 (EA Games): Plays a blinder and takes the armband as best shooter on the block
2. Call of Duty: World at War (Activision): The white flag isn't raised quite yet but it has been flanked
3. Need for Speed: Undercover (EA Games): Takes over party games and leaves them in its dust
4. Guitar Hero: World Tour (Red Octane): Blisters aplenty across the country caused by this addictive play-along
5. Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games (SEGA): Gets you more knackered than the Eliminator on Gladiators. Brilliant.
