With a glut of touchscreen phones out there at the moment, it takes something to really get our attention. Well, the combination of the word 'BlackBerry' and 'touchscreen' was enough. But the new Storm also throws in a unique new feature: a screen that's mounted to click like a button when pressed.
Surprisingly, it works rather well, clicking consistently in each corner and the middle, so it doesn't draw attention to itself. It just adds another dimension when jabbing at links on the screen – select them by pushing in, and you get none of the link-lottery that can happen on, say, the iPhone.
There's no Wi-Fi, but along with the 3G connection (at up to 7.5Mbit/sec), you get a full web browser, which feels pretty nippy from our time with it, and the potential of applications from Vodafone's own store, as well as Vodafone Live's music download service.
Socket to me
Like any serious media phone, you'll get a 3.5mm headphone jack for using standard earbuds, and we're pleased by the 3.2MP camera too, which has integrated flash and autofocus. Plus, of course, the email that made BlackBerry a byword for 'stopitstopitputitdownyou'renotatworkatthemoment'. It even feels pretty good as a phone.
Interested? It'll be free on a £35 a month contract from mid-November. We'll bring you a full review once we've got production units on hand – the video above will have to keep you going until then.
